Carefindy’s chairman and founder Professor Lars Lidgren describes the background and research behind Carefindy in a recently published research article in Orthopaedics Today Europe.

Carefindy was founded as a direct response to three major world events that the founder and chairman experienced first-hand or became directly involved with; the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, the SARS outbreak in China in 2003, and the hotel killings in Mumbai, India in 2008.

To give an overview of the problem at hand; nearly twice each minute someone dies from traffic-related injuries, and 10% of annual global mortality can be attributed to traffic-related injuries. About 25 million people are permanently handicapped due to these types of injuries, which underscores the need for immediate, quality care following an emergency situation. There can be a 15% to 25% reduction in the mortality associated with emergency injuries when an individual is treated at an Advanced Trauma Life Support center. The message is clear: getting to a hospital is not enough, getting to the right hospital in the shortest time is what saves lives.
